General Motors will be stopping sales of Holden-branded cars in Australia in 2021, shutting down the production lines, the design department, and the Melbourne test lab. Around 600 people will be facing unemployment once the marque ceases to be.
Holden, which has been present on the Australian automotive market since 1948, currently has the Commodore liftback and estate/wagon on its lineup, as well as the Equinox SUV, the Acadia SUV, and the Astra hatchback.
The decision to shut down the brand was hardly unexpected, because the company announced the discontinuation of the Astra and Commodore models last year. Production of the Commodore sedan actually stopped in October 2017. To say farewell to the once popular model, the company re-launched it in the Motorsport Edition depicted in our gallery and the video here. The limited series arrived to the market packing V8 6.2, 413 hp (308 kW), and 570 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque.
