World’s only 1986 Holden Commodore Convertible crops up on sale

Throughout its 42-year-long history of market presence in Australia, the Holden Commodore has never received an open-top version, so a racing driver decided to build his own replica. It is on sale now.

A 1986 VL Commodore Berlina was taken for the starting point, although quite a few parts had to be borrowed from an Opel Monza, including quarterpanels and doors. Years later, another owner of the car put it in a Walkinshaw body kit.

The Commodore was allowed to keep its original 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine and four-speed automatic transmission. With 156,600 kilometers (97,308 miles) on the odo, it is far from new, but a recent maintenance saw many rubber gaskets and tires replaced, fuel injectors upgraded, and a new AC installed in the cabin.

The minimum bet amount is $49,000 AUD, or around $35,700 USD.
