Japanese car manufacturer Honda has announced the forthcoming premiere of its first all-electric vehicle, named simply the Honda e. The company says it has already received over 22,000 pre-orders for the environmentally clean urban car.
The Honda e initially debuted as the Urban EV Concept, and later as the e Prototype. The production car will come driven by a single rear axle-mounted electric motor drawing its power from a traction battery with unspecified capacity. That said, when the e Prototype debuted, the company said it offered around 200 kilometers (124 miles) of range and could be replenished from zero to 80% in just 30 minutes using a high-power charging station.
The e Prototype also had video cameras instead of the traditional side mirrors, LED lights that doubled as charge indicators, a panoramic windshield, mixed-fabric seat upholstery, and as many as five dashboard-mounted displays, each serving its own purpose.
