An insider claims that General Motors will handle the production of Acura- and Honda-branded electric SUVs and crossovers coming up in a few years.
The GM plant in Mexico will allegedly produce the market equivalent of the Honda SUV e Concept featured in our gallery and the video here. It will reportedly be pieced together next to the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox models. A year after that, Acura will launch its own take on the SUV e, occupying the GM Tennessee factory lines alongside the Cadillac Lyriq.
It is said that these Japanese-badged models will benefit from GM Ultium battery tech and could even share the basic platform and tech with their American cousins. Details remain uncertain.
None of the companies mentioned has commented on the leak yet. Perhaps we will learn more when Honda unveils its vehicle electrification strategy for North America late this year.
