Honda unveils the SUV RS, a compact crossover concept for SEA

Honda has premiered a small SUV prototype at a motor show in Indonesia, which is called simply the SUV RS and targets Southeastern Asia and Pacific countries.

The letters RS hint at a performance car coming up. In Indonesia, there are multiple light passenger cars with the RS badge on sale, but this is the first time a crossover gets them on that market. Then again, the company might as well change the name for the final production version. Rumor has it the CUV will be called ZR-V and have an RS variant with sported-up looks.

As is, the SUV RS has a rather laconic appearance, sports LED headlights, and is four meters long. Technical parameters remain to be announced, but they should be comparable to those of its main rivals – the Hyundai Creta and the Skoda Karoq.

AutocarIndia believes that the new CUV will be based on the same platform and units as the Honda City. If so, it would mean a choice between a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with 121 PS (190 hp / 90 kW) and a hybrid powertrain with the same engine dialed slightly down and an electric motor compensating for that. Transmissions would include five-speed manual and CVT, and the drive will stay on the front axle in all variants.
