Honda reveals the ZR-V for China

Honda has come to an auto show in Shenzhen, China with a new crossover SUV named the ZR-V. According to AutoHome, a very similar car will soon debut as ‘ZR-V’ in Europe and ‘HR-V’ in the USA.

The Chinese spec looks nearly identical to the latest Honda HR-V and comes powered by a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine mated to a CVT. The output amounts to 182 PS (179 hp / 134 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque. All-wheel drive is not mentioned anywhere.

At 4,568 x 1,840 x 1,621 millimeters L/W/H with 2,655 mm of wheelbase, the crossover slots in between the Euro-spec HR-V and CR-V as far as the size is concerned. As such, it will compete with the likes of the Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan.

The technological platform is shared with the new Honda Civic, complete with independent suspension and interior layout. The steering wheel, the HVAC controls and the mesh insert concealing the dashboard air vents in particular look like those on the Civic. Having said that, the ZR-V has its own center tunnel design with a compartment for miscellaneous items, and a new transmission selector. We have seen a similar design on the Honda Integra for China, which is also Civic-based. The floor is flat, by the way.

Elsewhere, the newcomer comes with wheels sized up to 18 inches large, LED lighting, two displays, power-adjustable seats, USB slots (including a few for the rear seat occupants) and a plethora of driving aids, such as ACC and LC.

When the ZR-V goes on sale in Europe and China, it may get a hybridized version. The sales launch in China is a few days away, while the other countries should get the car sometime later in the year.
