Tech giant Sony has teamed up with automaker Honda to establish a car brand named Afeela, which unveiled its first concept at the CES expo. The companies have now shared their plans for the future expansion of the lineup.
As Afeela CEO Yasuhide Mizuno told Autocar in a recent interview, the marque’s plans for the near future include producing another crossover SUV and a sedan. A minivan was also under consideration, but the company decided to postpone its premiere until autonomous driving technology evolves to a sufficient level. Specifically, per Yasuhide Mizuno, SAE Level 4 self-driving would make it a “party van that everyone would want.”
There has been no mention of technical details. All we know so far is that Afeela-branded EVs will be based on the Honda e:Architecture platform, which is still in development and should debut in two or three years along with the first production car.
Initially, the company expects to sell its cars on the North American market where all production will be localized. Japan is the next in queue, followed by Europe in 2027.
