Honda reveals an EV for kids in hospitals

Honda has announced the launch of a Project Courage social initiative in North America, which involves supplying children’s hospitals with 60 tiny EVs named Shogo, designed specifically to be driven around hospital wards. Aside from making getting around easier, the cars should relieve the stress felt by the kids.

The car is partly based on the company’s racing kart chassis, just downsized and simpler built with the same steering mechanism. It boasts a sporty exterior, but has fewer curves and surfaces for easier cleaning. There is ample space on board for toys and personal belongings, and the driver’s name is displayed on the main screen.

The target audience is kids aged 4–9. The top speed can be adjusted in accordance with the age in the range of 1–5 mph (1.6–8 km/h). The steering yoke doubles as the accelerator and the brake, and a handle at the back allows using the car as a stroller.

The first examples have already been delivered to hospitals, and the rest will arrive before the end of the fall.
