Honda previews its future EV design direction

Honda has attended this year’s CES with two concepts dubbed Saloon and Space-Hub. Both preview a new family of electric cars so far known as the 0 (Zero) Series.

The Saloon will be the first to reach the market in 2026. It features a single-space body design and only two doors that swing upwards to open. Inside, the steering wheel is styled as a retractable yoke, the center console is fairly bulky and the entire dashboard is occupied by a single large display.

In turn, the Space-Hub Concept is a van with a roof that’s nearly all glass and sliding doors at the sides. The rear end has a closed design, possibly for privacy purposes. The interior has three seat rows, but the middle row seats are installed backwards to let the passengers talk to each other. Honda stresses that the design is ‘flexible’, so we assume that the seats can swivel around.

Honda has a partnership agreement with General Motors that envisions releasing electric cars on a shared platform. However, it’s official that the 0 Series will be released on the Japanese company’s own, proprietary architecture independent from GM. Its fast charging feature will let owners replenish the battery charge from 15 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.
