John Krafcik, CEO of Google’s pet startup firm Waymo, has announced a project for a self-driving vehicle to be used exclusively in the delivery business. He said the company would cooperate with Honda on the project.
Perhaps most notably, Honda is going to design a brand-new vehicle from scratch rather than try to retrofit an existing chassis with self-drive equipment and tech. The outcome is going to look like a mid-sized car without the steering wheel or pedals.
A similar concept has recently been introduced by Nuro, another startup company founded by former Google employees (is that even a coincidence?). Their self-driving car, the R1, was essentially a huge freight transporter with twenty cells for delivery packages.
