The drag racing scene is traditionally dominated by two drive types – rear and AWD. It is therefore particularly intriguing to see custom rides like this 30-year-old, FWD Honda Civic beating supercars on the drag strip.
The owner of this particular Civic didn’t mind the occasional street race, but having his car impounded forced him to rethink his behavior. He resolved to up the ante and participate in official events instead.
To that end, he bought a large Precision turbo, a giant front intercooler and a dogbox transmission for his ride. The stock 2.2-liter K-Series engine wound up with a plethora of racing-friendly components. In the end, the output to the front wheels went up to 1,115 PS (1,100 hp / 820 kW) in street mode and to 1,318 PS (1,300 hp / 969 kW) in track mode.
On the outside, the unique hot hatch boasts a widened front end with massive wheels in the arches, no doubt due to FWD system improvements. The unusual body shape does not prevent it from running down the quarter-mile track in 7.94 seconds and hitting 298 km/h (185 mph) in the process, the world’s highest for a car running on a Honda K-Series engine.
