Honda Civic hybrid passes moose test on par with BMW M4

The latest Honda Civic proved to be surprisingly good at sudden obstacle evasion, km77.com reports in its latest video. Like the BMW M4 tested last summer, it managed to complete the trial at 77 km/h (47.8 mph), becoming one of the few cars to have passed it with flying colors.

The version tested was e:HEV, a European hybrid spec rated at 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW). For the purposes of the test, the car wore Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires around 18-inch wheels.

As per the protocol, the driver performed his first test run at 77 km/h to figure out what the car was generally capable of. He ended up hitting multiple traffic cones, but felt that the hatchback was agile and responsive enough to continue trying.

Several attempts later, he managed to pass the whole test at 77 km/h without hitting a single cone. Analyzing the performance later, a team of experts concluded that that the Civic reacted very adequately to all steering inputs, barely swayed in turns, and felt well-balanced overall despite weighing above 1.5 metric tons (3,300 pounds). They also praised its standard tires and electronic assist settings.

Inspired by the success, the test driver continued trying to complete the test at higher accelerations, but inevitably ended up hitting cones.
