Unlike some other car manufacturers, Honda is committed to preserving and even expanding its four-door lineup, the marque’s Assistant VP in North America, Lance Woelfer, said in an interview with Automotive News. He added that there was no intention to focus on SUVs for the international market.
According to Woelfer, the very fact that many competing businesses ditched their sedan lineups provided a de-facto advantage for the Japanese brand. The saloon market may be shrinking, but they are still in demand, and less supply means customers will be more likely to pick a Honda.
He added that Honda dealerships in the United States were themselves quite enthusiastic about sedans, asking the company to keep Accord and Civic shipments coming in at a steady pace.
Over the past few years, Honda has struggled to meet the demand due to logistics issues. Despite this, the company reckoned that sedan sales would go 20% up in the USA this year compared to the preceding one. About a half of the Accord models sold would be part-electric, Honda predicted.
