Mitsuoka turns a Honda Civic into a Dodge Challenger parody

Japanese retro-inspired car customizer Mitsuoka has shown a new project named M55. It is a Honda Civic with a body kit that makes it look a bit like the Dodge Challenger. Despite the high level of detail, it is still a prototype – and it is up to us customers to decide whether it will be produced or not.

The profile view suggests that the entire Civic body structure is intact. However, the front end has been replaced completely and the rear overhang has become longer. A new front bumper, four round headlamps, a recognizable Challenger-style grille and a new hood help with the similarity, but the proportions are still off. The tailgate has a spoiler on it and a corrugated trim piece seen on the earlier Ford Mustang generations. The rear bumper and the taillights are new, too.

The interior has been re-trimmed, but left stylistically intact. The stock 1.5-liter turbo engine rated at 182 PS (180 hp / 134 kW) is also still in place.

In all likelihood, the decision whether to produce the car or not will depend on its reception by the target audience. Mitsuoka will be bringing the M55 to a motor show in Tokyo at the end of the month.
