Honda Civic Type R sets a new world record

A Honda Civic Type R hatchback set a new world record among front-drive cars as it finished the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France in just 2 minutes 1.5 seconds – almost five seconds below the previous record. The hot hatch was piloted by WTCC racing driver Esteban Guerrieri.

The same Japan-designed hatchback model had previously claimed the title of the fastest-going front-drive vehicle on the Nürburgring race track in Germany. Driven by a two-liter turbocharged engine with 320 hp (approx. 240 kW) at its disposal and a six-speed manual transmission, it can accelerate 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Honda seems resolute to continue to challenge records the world over. After Magny-Cours, the Honda racing team will consecutively visit Estoril (Portugal), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium) and Silverstone (England). The company even invited F1 champions to assist it in this ambitious undertaking.
