320,000 LEGO bricks make up a Honda Civic Type R

The Australian subdivision of Honda has opened the LEGO Masters show with a life-size model of the Civic Type R hatchback. The replica took 320,000 bricks and 1,300 hours to build.

The toy car features functional headlights (you may toggle these using a dedicated mobile app) and sports numerous fine details, such as the windshield wipers, the rear spoiler, and the brakes. The components are held together by means of a stainless-steel frame and glue.

As stated above, nine specialists supervised by certified LEGO craftsman Ryan McNaught spent 1,300 hours creating the replica. They used the original production blueprints to draw up a rough sketch of the car before proceeding with the assembly.

The real hot hatch leaves the assembly line equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine capable of 320 hp (239 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lbft) of torque. It sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and may ultimately exceed 270 km/h (168 mph).
