Honda shares a video teaser of something we’ve seen before

Honda unveiled the Limited Edition of its performance-oriented Civic Type R model in the beginning of the year. The car has since gone on sale in several countries and became a best-seller in Canada, so seeing it advertised in a teaser video after all that is quite odd.

In the fifteen-second long vid, the Civic Type R Limited Edition zaps through the finish line of a racetrack while an attendant presses the button to stop the timer. The filming location could be Suzuka Raceway in Japan, which was co-built with Honda.

A new hashtag, #TypeRChallenge, accompanies the post. Just what Honda wanted to say with it remains unknown. Could it be working on modding its hot hatch for a record-breaking Nürburgring run? This actually appears likely, given that the FWD record on that track once belonged to the Civic Type R (Renault Megane RS Trophy-R dethroned it later).

The company refrains from commenting, so the mystery will persist for some time. Sending a team of test drivers from Japan to Germany also seems hardly possible during the Covid-19 lockdown.
