Honda Civic Type R first photos published

Honda has revealed the first official images of the next-gen Civic Type R, which was running its pre-production tests on the North Loop wrapped from prying eyes.

Based on the two images published, the hot hatch has a rather ascetic-looking body kit with a modest rear wing and fewer air vents than before. The triple tailpipes are still there, however, and the one in the middle is the widest. The current-gen Civic Type R has a narrower middle tailpipe.

Elsewhere, the prototype can be seen wearing Michelin tires and red brake calipers.

The standard 11th-gen Civic hatchback was introduced several months ago (watch the video if you would like a reminder). It is now available with a non-turbo engine rated at 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW) and a turbocharged one good for 183 PS (180 hp / 134 kW).
