Honda never mentioned how hot its new Civic Type R hot hatch really is, saying just that it will be the most powerful Civic in history. Tire Meets Road has now published what it claims are leaked scans of an ad brochure, according to which the performance gain is minimal.
We are told that the parameters were revealed by Azusa Itoh, a Japanese woman who ordered the car and was mailed a few booklets soon after that, one of which quoted some of the car’s actual specifications.
If the info is accurate, then the new Civic Type R commands 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW) at 6,500 RPM and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque between 2,600 and 4,000 RPM. This is mere 10 horsepower (7 kilowatts) and 20 Newton-meters (15 pound-feet) of torque more than the predecessor had. Whether the sprint time is any better is unknown, either.
If these numbers disappoint you, take consolation in the fact that the new Type R now sports a more modern, laconic exterior and has bucket seats inside factory-prepped for multi-point safety harnesses. All other details should be revealed closer to the sales launch, which remains penciled in for September 2022.
