Honda has previewed the new Civic Type R hot hatch at the fourth stage of SUPER GT Japan, landing it with a lightweight rear wing and some original décor.
The car received a range of improvements from the Honda Access division. Among them is a new rear wing made of carbon fiber, which weighs 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) less than stock and features a special aerodynamic profile said to improve downforce at higher accelerations.
The body comes finished in Sonic Gray Pearl with the brake calipers, mirror caps, alloy wheel hubcaps and badge bases painted red for contrast.
Inside, the red bucket seats are standard equipment for the Civic Type R. New additions include illuminated kick plates, a new gear lever with aluminum and red leather trim, carbon fiber details and special floor mats.
The hot hatch debuted in late July, touted by Honda as the most powerful Civic ever made. Unofficial sources have reported that it has 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. We will know for sure when sales start in September.
