Honda pauses Civic preorders in Japan

Honda is no longer taking reservations for the Civic lineup on its domestic market, including the range-topping Type R hot hatch. A message on the official website says ongoing microchip shortages are to blame.

In all likelihood, the shortage of electronic components stems from Covid-imposed restrictions. Even now that the pandemic is mostly over, the company admits that supply chain disruptions prevent it from planning the production too far ahead. As such, in order to deliver the cars already on backorder, Honda will not be processing any new orders in the near future.

It is unknown when the Civic may once again become available in Japan. Local media speculate that it could happen in late summer or early fall.

In January this year, Honda hit pause on Civic Type R pre-orders saying that it had around a year’s worth in backorders to deal with.
