Devin Niemela, a U.S.-based car enthusiast, has officially wrapped up work on a unique, all-wheel-drive 2021 Honda Civic Type R. The car underwent multiple full rebuilds that summed up to $100,000, but ended up as a jaw-dropping, 800-horsepower track weapon.
Niemela bought the Civic in a dismal condition after an unspecified road accident. He had to restore the bodywork and the frame from the ground up, but ultimately succeeded and had a road-worthy hot hatch in his hands.
Never the one to leave good enough alone, he swapped the original engine for the famous K24 unit from the Honda CR-V, beloved by all tuners. It all went well until a misaligned timing sprocket wreaked havoc in the bay. The entire upper half of the engine was ruined.
Niemela successfully restored the mill and implemented a four-wheel-drive system based on a front subframe and a differential from the same CR-V. He also had to cut, weld and fabricate a number of unique parts for the build.
In the end, the car is reportedly in flawless technical condition and sends 800 horsepower (600 kilowatts) to all four wheels. Watch the video if you have any doubts – it looks and sounds every bit like the charismatic monster that it is.
