Honda Civic Type R keeps smashing records

The performance-packed Honda Civic Type R hatchback has scored its third racetrack record. Bertrand Baguette, a Belgian endurance race champion, has concluded the formidable Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in mere 2 minutes 53.7 seconds, earning gold in the Front-Driven Vehicles category.

The absolute record of the circuit belongs to Lewis Hamilton piloting a Mercedes F1 racecar, who managed to conclude it in 1 minute 42.5 seconds.

Honda Civic Type R has previously set new records on the Nürburgring’s North Loop and the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours. The team isn’t just going to rest on laurels, though. Their nearest schedule includes such famous tracks as the Silverstone, the Hungaroring and the Estoril. These three will be challenged by Tiago Monteiro and Jenson Button.

The hatchback series comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 320 hp (239 kW) and a 6-speed manual transmission. It gets to 100 km/h (60 mph) in under six seconds and can accelerate up to 270 km/h (168 mph).
