Somebody Hold That One Already: The Honda Civic Type R beats another record

The Honda Civic Type R has set the fifth speed record in a row in the “Front-Driven Production Vehicle” category. This time around the hot hatchback has conquered the Estoril Circuit in Portugal.

The vehicle was piloted by Tiago Monteiro. He managed to complete the lap in 2:1.84, setting a new record several seconds below the old one.

Asked for a comment, the driver said the hatchback was sufficiently stable in turns and generally felt like a racecar.

All races were part of Type R Challenge-2018, a special show event Honda took up to beat records on all major circuits the world over. Nürburgring, Magny-Cours, Spa-Francorchamps and Silverstone have all proved insufficiently challenging earlier.

The Honda Civic Type R comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 320 hp (240 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb·ft) of torque. It accelerates to 100 km/h (60 mph) in 5.7 seconds and ultimately surpasses 270 km/h.
