The Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer may remain a show car, but it gives us a rather clear idea of the company’s hybrid powertrain for the IndyCar championship.
The only semblance to the stock CR-V here is superficial and limited to the upper bodywork. The racer SUV flaunts butterfly-wing doors, an exclusive paint job and a large rear wing. It also benefits from a tubular space-frame for extra rigidity.
Power originates from a 2.2-liter twin-turbo V6 engine assisted by a motor-generator and a six-speed transmission switched through paddle shifters. The whole hybrid system produces 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW).
The full premiere remains scheduled for Friday, March 3. It will take place in St. Petersburg, Florida during the first stage of the new IndyCar season.
