The compact Ferrari Dino 246 GTS may not be enjoying quite the same levels of worship as the legendary 250 GTO, but a well-preserved example will still easily set you back around half a million USD. Therefore, you are in luck if you can settle with a replica like this Honda Del Sol.
The idea to convert the Targa into an Italian classic lookalike originally came to Randy Markham and Russ Keller 48 years ago, shortly after Ferrari stopped the production of the original Dino model. The two tuners designed and produced a crate car kit, which the owner of this Honda Del Sol purchased and carefully modified to fit his vehicle. As you may see, the overall dimensions match quite well, although there is no avoiding the fact that the Del Sol is a front-engined car, while the Dino keeps its engine behind the seats.
Elsewhere, the project car rides on old Mustang wheels and retains its original interior and engine. This means the wheels get 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW) at most. The seller pointed out that more work was needed on the project before it could be considered finished – mostly inexpensive, but time-consuming work like matching panels and polishing.
Maybe this is why the winning bidder ended up paying only $8,000 USD for this otherwise compelling build.
