Honda patents two SUV EVs in China, or possibly just one

The Japanese automaker has obtained certificates for two new electric crossovers in China: e:NS2 and e:NP2. Some sources claim it’s basically the same car coming in two different designs.

According to AutoHome, the shipments will begin in April. In the meantime, the patent shots suggest that the model(s) will be styled very close to the concepts Honda introduced in Shanghai last year. The frame and most of the bodywork in particular look identical.

It’s the details that differ, and quite a lot at that. The headlights and front bumpers are not nearly alike, and the same goes for the tailgates and taillights.

The Honda e:NS2 is 4,788 x 1,838 x 1,570 millimeters large, according to the certificate data. The e:NP2 looks like its coupe variant and is mere millimeters off. The wheelbase is the same at 2,735 mm. Both come equipped with a 68.8-kWh battery that should last 500 km (310 miles) or so and a single e-motor rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW).

Despite sharing most of the tech, the two SUVs will likely end up competing against each other in China: one will be produced by GAC and the other one by Dongfeng, both Honda’s partners in the country.
