Honda Japan has posted some photos of its Freed compact van going into its third generation. The production will begin in June, and the buyers will be choosing between two powertrains: ICE and e:HEV with four driven wheels.
There are both exterior and interior shots, but no technical specifications thus far. Compared to its predecessor dating back to 2019, the new Freed looks drastically different from both ends. There are two styling packages to choose from called Air (standard) and Crosstar (“rugged” look). The Air features slimmed-down headlights with a black trim and a LED stripe between them. The Crosstar has similar-looking front lights, but they do without the connecting stripe – there’s a silver trim with a raised checkerboard pattern in its place.
The front bumpers are also different, and the Crosstar additionally gets a plastic body kit which includes an imitated rear diffuser. The taillights are the same between the two looks, styled as stacked pairs of square lights divided in four sections.
The compact van is 4,310 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,755 mm tall with 2,740 mm between the axles. As such, it is 45 mm (1.8 inches) longer than its predecessor, but otherwise about the same size with exactly the same wheelbase.
The Air trim can be ordered with six or seven seats in the cabin. The Crosstar gets five or six seats, the five-seater offering the most trunk space possible. The driver gets a redesigned steering wheel, digital instruments, a new infotainment display and a revised center console. The Crosstar tops all of the above with scratch- and stain-resistant seat trim.
