Honda to get rid of Odyssey, Legend, and Clarity in Japan

The Japanese carmaker will be discontinuing the minivan and two sedans on the domestic market, citing low market demand.

The Clarity sedan emerged six years ago and has since been offered in petrol, hydrogen, all-electric and hybrid variants. The EV dropped out from the lineup a year ago, while the $70,000, lease-only fuel cell version never became popular with only 1,900 units sold in total. The hybrid has been the only relatively popular version, but it seems that Honda will not be making an exception for it alone.

The Legend has been around for seven long years, but since the Acura-badged U.S. version of the flagship saloon dropped out of the lineup, it has been sold exclusively in Japan. With 216 units sold in 2020, its future is all but sealed – which is a bit of a pity, considering that the Legend was the first production Honda to get an SAE Level 3 self-driving tech this spring (watch the video if you missed the announcement).

As for the Odyssey, the latest generation has been around for eight long years and received two facelifts on the domestic market. Note that the Odyssey produced and sold in the United States is an entirely different model unrelated to it.
