Honda will most likely reveal its NSX Type R two-door supercar at the 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon starting in October. An unidentified source claims that the vehicle will hit mass production with a significantly boosted engine and an aerodynamic kit adapted from the NSX GT3 racecar.
The same source says the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD powertrain will output 659 horsepower (491 kilowatts) in its new iteration, which should be a major improvement compared to the former 581 hp (433 kW). It will still incorporate the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine assisted by three electric motors. The performance surplus will likely be achieved via an ECU tune or small-scale re-engineering.
The Honda NSX series (known under its sub-brand name of Acura in the USA) has received a facelift in 2018, getting minor software upgrades for the engine and steering, as well as some chassis and suspension improvements. The company also ditched the previously used tire model in favor of a set with a better road grip.
The regular NSX produces up to 581 hp (433 kW) along with 644 Nm (475 lbĂ—ft) of torque. Linked to a nine-speed semi-automatic transmission, the engine accelerates the sports car from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.6 seconds. The top going speed amounts to 307 km/h (191 mph).
