Honda NSX Type S bows on its home market, is limited to 30 units

Honda Motor Company has officially introduced the NSX Type S coupe in Japan. Pre-orders for the farewell-issue NSX start tomorrow from nearly ¥28 million ($250,000+ USD), and the whole run will not exceed 30 units.

Compared side-by-side with the stock model, the Type S offers certain practical improvements. Most notably, its 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 now churns out 527 PS (520 hp / 388 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque thanks to new turbochargers borrowed from the NSX GT3 Evo racecar. A larger intercooler and high-end fuel injectors also contribute to the boost.

The hybrid traction battery has 20% more capacity, and the electric motor is 10% more powerful, resulting in a total output of 610 PS (602 hp / 450 kW) and 667 Nm (492 lb-ft) of torque. A special nine-speed DSG transmission is used for up to 50% reduction in switching times, and the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system benefits from a range of torque-vectoring optimizations to maximize cornering speed.

Rounding off the list of features are purpose-designed Pirelli P-Zero tires sized 245/35Z R19 at the front and 305/30Z R20 in the back. The tire set has been developed exclusively and specifically for the NSX Type S.
