Drag races may not be the most exciting to watch, but CarWOW never ceases to deliver. In one of its latest videos, a Formula One racing car goes up against a Honda NSX and an Arrma Limitless RC car.
The latter is a toy that weighs 3.9 kilos (8 lbs), has four driven wheels, and costs £1,400 in Great Britain. The controller of the RC car sat on the passenger’s seat of the Honda NSX, which acted as a safety/camera car for the Limitless. The NSX was stock, which implies a petrol V6 joined up with three electric motors for 581 PS (573 hp / 427 kW) and 645 Nm (476 lb-ft) of torque. Its curb weight is close to 1,760 kg (3,880 lbs).
In turn, the Red Bull RB7 is a purebred racer with a history of success: launched ten years ago, it won 12 races out of 19 and netted the Red Bull Racing Team the champion title. Its 2.4-liter V8 produces 750 PS (740 hp / 553 kW), and the weight is as low as 750 kg (1,653 lbs). David Coulthard himself piloted it for the drag race.
At first, the RC car had some technical issues, but it eventually started up normally and proceeded to win two out of three quarter-mile runs. The rivals then proceeded to a running-start test with a starting speed of 80 km/h (50 miles per hour) on a half-mile long track. The RC car yielded its leadership to the RB7 in this test and the brake test that followed, but only by a small margin (and it did not have any brakes installed in the first place).
