Judging by the hints made by Honda VP in Europe, Tom Gardner, the Japanese automaker will be showing us a completely new sports car later this year. Speaking in a recent interview, Gardner said sports remained essential for the Honda brand identity despite the recent market bias towards SUVs.
He said the company was thankful to its customers who lined up in long pre-order queues to get the latest Civic Type R (in the gallery below). But as good as the Civic might be, Honda possesses greater technological expertise that it wants to put to use in a more advanced and sophisticated vehicle.
He also reminded that the company celebrated its 50th birthday with the release of the S2000 roadster, which proceeded to become a milestone for Honda and an iconic sports car. Hence, with the brand turning 75 soon, it could celebrate by releasing a high-end sports car aiming at flagship status. He refused to go into any further details.
In April 2022, the Japanese corporation posted a teaser pic with two draped-over sports cars. It never supplied any details, but inside sources were reporting that one of those was a successor-of-sorts to the legendary NSX and the other one destined to revive the long-discontinued ‘Prelude’ badge familiar to many Honda fans.
