Honda introduces hi-end 2019 NSX Type R coupe

Honda Motor Company wants to release a performance version of the NSX Type R coupe in 2019, an official press release states. The vehicle will be sold internationally, with some markets getting it under the brand name of Acura.

First rumors about the upcoming release leaked on the Internet a few years ago, but we didn’t know much in detail until now. As it turns out, the new NSX Type R will inherit some components from the track-only NSX GT3 race car. It will also feature an advanced hybrid powertrain, possibly encompassing a 3.5-liter V6 engine and three electric motors. Its projected performance is about 640 hp (477 kW).

It isn’t clear yet what kind of transmission the new performance coupe may end up with, but chances are it gets a revised version of one of Honda’s nine-speed automatics.

In addition to the NSX Type R coupe, the Japanese car manufacturer will reveal its open-top/roadster modification. Both should premiere towards the end of the year.
