The legendary Honda S2000 roadster turns 20 this year. To celebrate, the Japanese carmaker will be bringing the model to the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon next month.
Unfortunately for those who wanted to see another generation of the model, the show car will be simply a tuned-up version of the original. The teaser image shown here is one of the few bits of information available so far, along with such project highlights as redesigned suspension, new front bumper, and a high-end audio system.
The original Honda S2000 has been in production from 1999 through 2009. Powered by a 2.0-liter non-turbo engine later expanded to 2.2 liters, it pushed up to 247 hp (184 kW) along with 218 Nm (161 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels by means of a six-speed manual transmission. The technical highlights also included a Torsen limited-slip differential, as well as a perfect axle loadout.
Aside from the tuned S2000, Honda will be bringing a variety of other cars to the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, including the Civic Cyber Night Japan Cruiser (based on the iconic Civic Type R EK9), the Kachatto-Wagon (StepWgn), and a kids’ car called Aibou.
