Non-swapped Honda S2000 nearly scores 200 mph in a half-mile run

When Honda designed its S200 roadster, it could never really expect how popular it would become among enthusiasts and tuners. Even so, this example packing 1,000 horsepower and capable of going 321 km/h is quite unique.

The most interesting part is that the car got to keep its F22 four-cylinder turbo in place. Additions included new connecting rods, camshafts and pistons, as well as a 68mm turbine charger. This and more culminated in more than 1,000 hp (745 kW) reaching the rear axle – or so the owner claims.

There was no doubt that the stock six-speed manual gearbox would collapse under the load, so a Quaife sequential transmission took its place. Further mods included a carbon-fiber driveshaft and a rear differential borrowed from a Nissan 300ZX.

In a recent racing event, the heavily modded Honda S2000 managed to finish its half-mile run at 321.2 km/h, stopping just barely below the coveted 322 km/h (200 miles per hour). Even so, the man behind the steering wheel was happy and said he was using it as a daily driver to go to work, anyway; turning it into a pure track tool would be impractical.
