Honda to axe the E hatchback, develop an S200 successor

According to Autocar quoting representatives of Honda, the market of today is more interested in electric crossovers than hatchbacks, so the affordable Honda e will not live for another generation. On the other hand, the company plans to introduce something new this year – an eco-friendly continuation of the iconic S2000.

Allegedly, Honda believes that SUVs and crossovers continue to be the most demanded vehicle types, so it will continue to focus on them at least in Europe. The e:Ny1 model rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) is set to go on sale in a few months, while the Honda e (depicted below) will go out of production never to return. It will remain around in Japan, but in Europe, designing the next generation is not on the agenda.

CarMagazine adds quoting informal sources that Honda will be unveiling a new all-electric sports car later this year to celebrate 75 years in the industry. It is expected to become an ideological successor of sorts to the famous S2000 Roadster. The insiders claim that it will house an electric motor within the wheelbase, i.e., behind the seats. A high-end version called S2000 Type R is reportedly also in the works.
