Chinese luxury vehicle maker Hongqi attended this year’s Auto China show with a serious-looking body-on-frame off-roader concept named simply Offroad (see video). It’s now been confirmed that the vehicle is getting a production run – read below for the first details.
The SUV will be known as the Hongqi G919, where the first 9 reportedly stands for “pinnacle of its market segment”, the 1 stands for “first-class emotions from driving” and the second 9 means “top-end service,” according to the manufacturer. The body is 5,135 mm (202.2 inches) long with 2,900 mm (114.2 inches) of wheelbase. Air-ride suspension and electronic diff locks are both confirmed as standard equipment.
Based on the above, it makes sense to assume that the standard trim will also include a rugged body kit, specialized off-road wheels and tires, an expedition rack on the roof and a range of dedicated electronic assist features for off-road driving.
The powertrain specs have already been made official, too. The G919 relies on a 2,0-liter turbo four-pot to generate electricity for its four e-motors. Their output maxes out at 843 PS (831 hp / 620 kW) and 1,320 Nm (974 lb-ft) of torque. It’s enough to send the bulky off-roader from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds, Hongqi claims.
