China-based automotive company Hongqi has taken the wraps off S9, its mid-engined hybrid hypercar that first debuted as a concept at the 2019 IAA Frankfurt show. The self-proclaimed Bugatti Chiron archnemesis costs 10 million CNY, or $1.43 million USD.
Powering the sleek coupe are a four-liter V8 and an electric motor. The cumulative output amounts to 1,400 horsepower (1,030 kW), letting the S9 zap from standstill to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds and ultimately hit 400 km/h (248 mph).
Hongqi, which is a part of the FAW consortium, translates into English as “Red Banner”. This is reflected in the red stripe running down the carbon-fiber body of the hypercar, as well as its red badges and wheel details.
The Hongqi S9 will be revealed in full detail later this year and go into production in 2021.
