The Aito M5 is a mid-size crossover SUV from Chinese carmaker Seres that runs on electric power, but is technically a range-extender hybrid (REX).
Co-designed with Hyundai, the Aito M5 features such innovative tech as a 15.6-inch touchscreen display and a modern operating system named Huawei Harmony. Aside from the giant central display, the car offers a 10.4-inch digital gauge cluster, a 19-speaker Huawei audio system with two speakers built into the driver’s headrest, and a Stage 2+ self-driving system.
The car measures 4,770 x 1,930 x 1,625 mm L/W/H and comes with three powertrains to choose from. The most affordable option is a single rear-mounted electric motor capable of 276 PS (272 hp / 203 kW). The other two are dual-motor and rated at 434 PS (428 hp / 319 kW) and 503 PS (496 hp / 370 kW). The top spec needs 4.4 seconds for its 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) launch.
The battery holds up to 40 kilowatt-hours and grants only 150 km (93 miles) of driving range. As a range extender, the car has a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine burning petrol for 125 PS (123 hp / 92 kW), which is used solely to generate more power for the main electric system. With the tank full, the range maxes out at 1,100 km (683 miles).
Prices start from $39,500 in USD equivalent.
