RV maker Wolf Rigs has revealed the first prototype of what is going to become an off-road-capable motorhome on Humvee chassis and drivetrain. Company founder, Reed Gerdes, said every effort will be made to start small-batch production as soon as possible.
Interestingly enough, the original project involved a bus instead of an army vehicle. After two failed attempts at building the RV, though, the company concluded that buses were too clumsy and picky about road quality to use them as motorhomes away from civilization.
Experiments with retrofitting the Humvee began a year and a half ago. Originally, Wolf Rigs considered dropping a prefabricated camper on its chassis, but ended up rebuilding the car itself, integrating the camper part tightly into its structure. This has the benefit of improved structural rigidity and enables the driver to access the living area straight from the cab.
The interior shots here are simple 3D renderings at this point, but a dining area, a full-fledged bathroom with a WC, a kitchen and a large bed are all on the feature list.
