As impressive as its overlanding chops are, the U.S.-made Hummer H1 is still a big. clunky machine weighing around 3.3 metric tons (7,200 lbs) and not immune to getting stuck. This is what happened to a driver in Utah, and two tuned vehicles from Matt’s Off Road Recovery hurried to the rescue.
In the 13-minute video, the Hummer can be seen stranded in a sandy and rocky area after losing all contact between engine and wheels. Coming to its help are a heavily customized Jeep Cherokee and – even more impressively – a vintage Chevrolet Corvair Wagon. The latter left the factory around six decades ago and was not primarily known for its off-road virtues, but the example in the video is anything but stock. We do not know many details, but the video is prime testimony to its exceptional abilities.
The stranded Hummer is towed by the cars and eventually carried away for repairs, but not until a fourth participant – a Dodge Ram – enters the scene and does its own part, too. On the whole, the video is highly entertaining and seems to further prove that the better your off-roader is, the farther they will have to evacuate you from.
