GMC designed the Hummer EV for those of us into massive and overpowered pickup trucks, but it wasn’t universally well received. Those who found it not brutal-looking enough may consider this alternative from North American Electric Vehicles.
Working with a 1991 AM General Humvee military off-roader, the Canadian company turned it into a road-legal all-electric truck named the H1EV. Tesla drivetrain components were used throughout, including two e-motors jointly rated at 608 PS (600 hp / 447 kW), a Level II home charger and a battery pack. The capacity is not mentioned anywhere, but the standard size is just about enough for 241 km (150 miles) per charge – the sheer bulk and weight of the Humvee is to blame.
Other notable features include a comfortable vinyl-trimmed cabin with bucket seats, a GPS-based speedometer and an iPad for the main display. The wheels are sized 20 inches in diameter and come wrapped in 37-inch tires.
An H1EV like this will set you back $98,900 before options – pretty much the same as the GMC Hummer EV. Adding extra power cells to the battery will extend the maximum range to 483 km (300 miles) for a cool premium of $20,000.
