Hyundai Ioniq hybrid goes through a facelift

Hyundai has unveiled the facelifted version of its Ioniq hybrid car. You’ll be able to tell it from the old one by its radiator grille, bumpers, improved LED-based headlights and new taillights. There are also three new body colors to choose from.

Inside, there is a new infotainment system with a large 10.25” display, a redesigned center console and a touch-based control panel for quick access to certain car functions.

There are some more substantial upgrades under the hood, too. For one, the new Hyundai Ioniq can now recognize when it enters environment protection areas and automatically switch to the all-electric drive mode there. As for the regenerative brake function, you may now engage it by simply using the paddle shifter under the steering wheel, rather than by pressing the pedal.

From now on, all trims will ship with a frontal collision warning system and lane control by default.

The base trim ships with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 105 hp (78 kW) and an electric motor contributing another 43.5 hp (32 kW). A higher trim ships with a stronger electric motor capable of 61 hp (45) and offers at least 50 km (30 mi) of all-electric range.

The company says it will soon update the all-electric Ioniq as well. Both models will be present at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland.
