Hyundai registers “Pavise” in New Zealand, could be a SUV or a truck

The Intellectual Property Agency of New Zealand just received an application from Hyundai claiming the rights to the “Pavise” trademark. While no announcement has been made yet, this could potentially mean a new SUV or pickup truck.

A pavise is a large shield infantrymen in Europe used in the period spanning from the 14th to the 16th century. It is generally believed that the shield – and its name – originated from the Italian town of Pavia.

Some car news media suppose that the Pavise could actually be a coupe conversion of an existing Hyundai model. Another opinion states that it could be a concept car with advanced electronic aids and safety-oriented tech.

It should also be said that the new model name fits into the existing nomenclature rather well. The South Korean car manufacturer often picks names of places – whether abstract or specific – for its new cars. For instance, there is the Palisade SUV named after the corresponding coastal area of Los-Angeles. Then there is the Venue SUV, named so just because a venue is a place where people get together and become the center of other people’s attention.
