Hyundai Ioniq Electric facelift debuts with improved range

Following a similar update of the hybrid Ioniq series early this year, Hyundai has released the facelifted Ioniq EV. The liftback debuted today with revamped body, cabin, and tech.

The most important change comes in the form of a larger lithium-polymer traction battery (now 38.3 kWh, up from 28 kWh). The 2019 Ioniq Electric comes WLTP-rated at 294 kilometers (183 miles) of range, representing a substantial improvement over the 204 km (127 mi) of its predecessor. You may still replenish up to 80% of the charge in an hour using a high-power charging station.

There is more than that, though. The electric motor has been extensively reworked to output 136 horsepower (101 kilowatts) instead of the old 120 hp / 90 kW. The torque stays the same at 295 Nm / 218 lbft, but you may now switch your vehicle to a new power saving mode called Eco+.

On the outside, the 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Electric facelift sports redesigned bumpers, LED lighting, and a new faux front grille.

As for the interior, it now corresponds to what the hybrid Ioniq series offers. The standard trim ships with an 8-inch multimedia display, while the higher trims offer a larger 10.25-inch one.

Prices for the refreshed Hyundai Ioniq Electric begin at the equivalent of U.S. $37,000 on its home market in South Korea. The car will become available in Europe this autumn; European prices remain undisclosed.
