Hyundai has released an official statement, saying that it will launch production of the Santa Cruz mini-pickup at its Alabama facilities in 2021.
The truck is based on the namesake concept vehicle that was originally introduced at the Detroit Motor Show in 2015. With it, the South Korean car marque has begun its expansion into a new market segment. The design of the model is primarily targeting younger audiences.
When it ships, the Hyundai Santa Cruz will be based on a ladder-frame chassis and come in a variety of cab sizes and drive types to choose from.
Along with the mini-pickup, the Alabama production line will start assembling the Santa Fe crossover and the Elantra/Sonata sedan series.
