Hyundai’s littlest CUV spied towed in Korea, but what could it be?

Someone in South Korea saw this mysterious Hyundai prototype vehicle towed in traffic. The factory has the car registered under the codename AX1, where A stands for A class, X for crossover, and 1 for first generation. With the above in mind, it looks like the carmaker is getting a Kia Sonet rival ready to rumble in emerging markets.

The miniature crossover seems only marginally larger than the Hyundai i10 or the Kia Picanto, but it has much more ground clearance and looks taller. Another interesting detail comes in the shape of the rear door handles: they are located so close to the rear end, they seem to almost touch down on the c-pillars.

The radiator grille seems to sport a mesh ornament, and the headlights will likely stem from the latest Venue/Kona model (see video). As for the engines, one-liter non-turbo and turbo options are a safe bet given the budget-friendly A class.
