The South Korean carmaker is working on a powerful hydrogen car and an N-Line racecar based on the E-GMP platform.
This would not be the company’s first foray into the electric racer segment of the market. There is, for instance, the Veloster N ETCR hatchback armed with four motors and a 65-kWh battery that Hyundai plans to take to various racing events. The manufacturer’s portfolio also contains the RM20e, a hot hatch co-designed with Croatian hypercar maker Rimac last year. This one has as much as 810 PS (800 hp / 596 kW) under the hood.
Having said that, neither of the two uses the E-GMP platform, so the newcomer will be the first to take advantage of it. The architecture lends itself best to car sizes from subcompact to mid-size.
The other announcement heralds the coming of a hydrogen car. Hyundai already has a car like this on the lineup, a crossover SUV named Nexo with only 161 PS (159 hp / 119 kW). However, the new fuel cell vehicle will utilize dual motors and be much more powerful than that.
