Hyundai Motor Company has posted a teaser promising to start production of its littlest SUV to date – the Casper – on September 15, 2021.
The car has the internal designation ‘AX1’, is 3.8 meters (12.5 feet) long, and comes based on the K1 platform of the Grand i10 Nios. It will be positioned a notch below the Venue model, which is itself tiny at 3,995 mm (13.11 feet) long.
Powertrains remain to be revealed, but we expect those to come from the abovementioned Venue. One is a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated four-pot rated at 83 PS (81 hp / 60 kW), while the other one is a 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder good for 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW).
A closer look at the image reveals Hyundai’s trademark stacked headlights consisting of LED DRLs also serving as turn signals in the top half and round headlamps with LED rings in the bottom half. The radiator grille looks rather big, and the roof has rails on it.
The brake lights make use of LED Matrix innards, while the taillights and the rear turn blinkers are integrated into the rear fascia.
Options on our list of expectations include multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, large touchscreen display, keyless entry, reversing camera, refrigerated glove compartment, and various ports and interfaces for gadgets.
The Casper will hit the market in South Korea first and make it to other countries later, notably including India.
